WIFI devices shown as connected via LAN to RBS750

Setup: RBR750 and RBS750 connected via Ethernet backhaul (AP mode)

The mobile devices connected via WIFI to RBS750 are displayed as connected to RBR750 via Ethernet. Is this normal behavior? I am fairly certain that these used to be properly displayed as connected via WIFI to the satellite, including the connection type (e.g. 5 GHz).

If the RBS is ethernet connected to the RBR, the translation of this from the wifi maybe seen rather than wifi as the ethernet connection would be the main connection seen by the RBR.

  • This is an issue that appeared with the latest firmware v4.6.9.11. It’s not handling wired backhaul correctly.
I hope that Netgear will fix this soon.

It's not just the latest firmware, I've seen this issue for a long time now, although only with specific devices. I have a Ring doorbell that consistently shows as being wired to the router, although it's actually connected wirelessly to the nearest satellite (and this can be verified by going in the connected devices page for the satellite itself).

This morning the Orbi app was showing a phone connected via Wifi that had left the house an hour before, although the browser status page was showing correct details.

I've just come to the conclusion that the Orbi list of connected devices is usually wrong, and I've learned not to rely on it.

The “Attached Devices” list in the Orbi app is different from the web GUI if you’re using Smart Parental Control, otherwise the two lists should be basically same.
