Will a 2nd RBS850 help provide a decent signal in my Garage from Router in my house?

Hi

I have an RBR850 with one RBS850 satellite which provides decent coverage throughout the house.

We have an external garage about 1m from the house which needs Wifi access for various kit.  I get wifi in there but performance drops dramatically to <5Mbps (in the house I get ~400Mbps) and sometimes drops out completely.  There are of course 2 external walls between the Router/Sat and the Garage.

So would an additional RBS850 placed in the garage help here, or would that just have poor connection anyway and so no net benefit?  I wasn't planning on wiring between the routers and sats, since that is a bigger project - but would that be the only way to improve performance in the garage?

Any comments much appeciated.

Cheers

Ian

  • the satellites need a decent signal to function off of. If there's not much for signal in the garage, thats what the satellite will pick up to use. and it'll be just as bad.

Maybe moving the router/satellite around in the home to cover more of the garage might help.

You could try running a wire, using a moca adapter, or trying powerline if the garage is on the same circuit.

  • What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

What is the distance between the house and garage? Garage attached or separate from home?

30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

  • If it is possible, You may want to consider running cat 6 cable from your Orbi Router (or an inline switch) to the garage and plug that into your Orbi Satellite.

I had that exact issue at my place and hard wiring works superbly
