The M4 can have 6E disabled - System Settings/WiFi/Details button, toggle WiFi 6E modem OFF. It will in certain cases toggle it back on, so verify it when/if you are testing. But if the Mac is stationary (not moving around the house), not rebooting or updating, you are pretty safe that will stay on the 5GHz band.
