Backhaul 1 gb not 2.5gb

I have an 870 system. One satellite. When I connect the satellite to my switch, it connects at 1gb. The switch and my network is 2.5gb.

The ports are all supposed to be 2.5gb but I am not seeing that.

Any ideas?

How far is the satellite from the switch?

Is it practical to try another cable?

Too far to try that, but I will move the satellite close and ensure it works with a known short cable. It could be the wiring in the walls but it is less than 100 feet and should fine. Other devices are using the built in wiring without difficulty.

This is correct.  All the Ethernet ports on the 871 router and 870 satellite are combination 2.5GB/1.0GB/100Mb ports.  They are supposed to autonegotiate the correct speed when connected to another Ethernet device. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonegotiation

What is the brand/model of the 2.5GB switch?

How are you informed that the satellite has connected at 1GB rather than 2.5GB?

(does this information come from the switch? the satellite? the router?)

If the satellite is temporarily relocated to the same room as the router and connected with an Ethernet cable (i.e. no switch), what happens?
