Don't know the regualtory requirements for the Caribbeans - and if Netgear does have options (what is always difficult, because of the US FCC regulatory devices don't allow regulatory region changes at all.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates telecommunications and radio services only in U.S. Caribbean territories, such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Independent Caribbean nations (like Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, or Barbados) have their own sovereign regulatory bodies and are not subject to U.S. FCC.
So that can make a big difference ...

Most islands are the same as US (FCC), Dutch and French islands are the same as Europe (ETSI). Either way, channel 44 is available in all countries, so geography is not a factor.

intelligent wifi doesnt seem it has an option to toggle on and off..
Google says
- open Settings, tap Connections, select Wi-Fi,
- tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner,
- choose Intelligent Wi-Fi

Are there controls there that modify how it works?
