My Orbi 973 system created a 6ghz network that I didn't create and have no access to.

I've had my Orbi 973 system now for o couple years. Love it.

I noticed a while ago, that when I was signing in to my network (BigMoney) on a new device; it asked me if I also wanted to sign into a related network:

"Also join 'NTGRBH_941865CE16E7' 'BigMoney' has a separate network name on the same Wi-Fi network. Joining additional network will improve your overall experience. So you want to also join 'NTGRBH_941865CE16E7'?"

One of these login in requests did tell me it was a 6GHz channel/network.

I do have "BigMoney-IOT" for my smart home devices; so I know it's not that channel. I do not have the Guest Network activated or turned on.

Has anyone else had their Orbi 970 mesh system do this? is there a remedy or way to clear, or sync it all up?

  • Yes.  On previous Orbi models, Netgear did not broadcast the SSID for the WiFi channel used to connect router and satellites. (Commonly known as the backhaul channel.)

When the WiFi7 products were released, the SSID for this channel is broadcast.  (i.e. NTGRBH stands for NetGearBackHaul)  Since the passphrase is VERY long and complicated, there is zero chance that anyone will ever be able to log into that channel.  Thus, broadcasting the SSID is distracting and annoying.

Despite MANY posts on the Forum suggesting, "Fix This!", there has been no change.
