Orbi 770 AP mode with satellites

Hi -

I purchased the Orbi 770 3 pack. My ISP needs it's gateway to be the router. So I set the base unit to access point mode (AP). I cannot get the satellites to work/connect. I tried the sync button and factory reset. No Bueno. All three units are ethernet backhauled to the same switch, and that switch connects to the gateway. When I restart the satellite the LED goes to blue. For a brief time I get strong wifi, Then in less than a minute my devices reconnect to the AP and only get 5Mb speed.

I tried moving the satellite closer to the AP and factory reset without the ethernet backhaul. The satellite goes to magenta after 2 minutes.

When I put the base in router mode it works for a short time but then fails as 192.168.1.1 is taken by my gateway, It then starts generating 10.0.0.... addresses, which are useless when trying to access internet resources.

Please help.

  • You said you had the switch connected behind the gateway router...Move the switch connection to behind the RBR:

Gateway router LAN port connected to Yellow WAN port on RBR<>RBR in AP Mode>Switch connected to a open LAN port on the RBR<>RBS connected to switch.

What brand and model# is this switch?

I think that is how I am set up. If not, tell me what to move?
