Orbi 770 cannot update to the latest firmwares
Hi I would like seek you help about update the formware of my orbi 770. I try many ways to update it but still not working. The formware still remain V10.5.8.1 even though in the orbi app or web portal show updates successfully
Also the worse case is. I has disable the auto firmware update in the setting but I notice the mesh system still keep trying to update by them self and fail again and again. This also interrupted my mesh network.
I had try the follow actions but still not working
- restart or cold restart the orbi770.
- factory reset the 770
- Use the orbi app to update
- use the web portal to update
- Follow the the manual update step provide by NETGEAR to update the 770 alone
the current mesh system 771 and old 770 running firmware V10.5.20.7. The issue is happen on my new 770 satellite
attached the screen when try to update alone inside the satellite
hope any one can give advice and this will help a lot!
The manual update process allows users to install any version of firmware, even versions older than the current one. Users often do this when they update to a new firmware and discover that it does not perform as they had hoped.
For method 1, please see this document:

Netgear Orbi systems appear to have a problem when the router and satellite(s) are not on the same firmware release. This system appears to have
- Router (RBE771) on v10.5.20.7
- Satellite1 (RBE770) on v10.5.20.7
- Newly added Satellite2 (RBE770) on v10.5.8.1
The goal is to update Satellite2 to v10.5.20.7, which appears to consistently fail.
There are two procedures which users on the Forum have reported to be successful:
- Disconnect Satellite2 from the network and update it to v10.5.20.7 manually.
(This is an awkward procedure.) - Manually load v10.5.8.1 on the router. This will put it on the same firmware as Satellite2 and it can then communicate with Satellite2.
Manually load v10.5.20.7 on Satellite2.
Manually load v10.5.20.7 on the router.
When the system reboots, all three units will be on the same firmware.
