Orbi 770 Satellite Slow Ethernet Speeds

Experiencing issues with wired connections to my 770 satellite. I've got the satellite connected on wireless backhaul to the main router about 15ft away. I've run tests both on my IPhone 16 Pro connected via Wifi 7 and computer connected via the 2.5 Gbps port. My Iphone is getting 700Mbps speeds whilst my PC is slower at 250 Mbps, surely I should be getting faster speeds on my PC which is connected through Ethernet? I have verified through the app that both devices are connected to the same satellite (I've only got 1 at the moment)

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

What chipset WiFi adapter brand and model# is installed in the PC?

Be sure drivers for this adapter is up to date.

15 feet is too close in between the RBR and RBS. 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?

    Just one RBS deployed?

If this is a recent purchase, it might be a good idea to contact Netgear support before the 90 days of 'complimentary support' expires.  Your observation that 250Mbps speed for a wired connection is "not right" is correct.  When contacting support, it will be very helpful to know the details about the PC and the Ethernet card that is in it.  I have seen reports on the internet of "issues" between 2.5G capable Ethernet ports and conventional 1G Ethernet ports.

While it is unusual to place an Orbi satellite only 15 feet from the router, this is unlikely to affect performance of a device 'wired' to the satellite.  The main considerations involve devices connected with WiFi:

      • Not gaining as much additional coverage for the system.  At 30 ft. apart, a substantial amount of space is well-covered by both satellites.  At 15 ft apart, "oh, my" the amount of overlap is A LOT:

These units are not cheap.  Overlapping coverage at the expense of more coverage is not a good trade-off.
      • Another potential issue when satellites are too close together is that some devices "get confused" about which WiFi unit they should use.

There is probably a reason why the satellite is located where it is, which may be more important than coverage.
