Orbi 870 - Netgear device already registered with another account

Hello,

In the Orbi app I am trying to enable Anywhere Access for my Netgear Orbi 870 system, but I receive the message: “This Netgear device is already registered with another account.”

I only have one Netgear account and in My Products I can see the Orbi within that account. There is no option to remove or deregister the device as far as I can see.

What could I do to make sure my product is only registered by myself and to enable anywhere access?

Note: I have the Orbi app installed on two iPhones with the same Netgear account.

Thanks in advance.

What's the point trying to deregister (you can't on your own anyway!), and attempt to re-register now?

The product registration and Anywhere Access are two independant items.

Even if you own for example a second-hand Netgear device, previously registered to an unknon third party, you still can link it to your account, and safely use Anywhere Access. The previous owner can not access it. A de-registration is not possible, simply because of the warrany is not transferable to a new user.

You can use as many mobile devices (iPhone, Android, ...) as you need.

Login to https://my.netgear.com/ and check if you really use the correct e-mail address - especially in case of "smart" email platforms allowing different e-mail aliases.

      Hi,

Thanks for your response. The idea was to remove the registered products and reregister by enabling Anywhere Access, just to see if it would solve the error message.

In the meantime I did a factory reset and re-installation. After the installation Anywhere Access was enabled by default and it worked from both iPhones using 5G.

However, after disabling Anywhere Access and trying to enable again, the same error message appears. For now, I trust it was my own registration sitting in the way, not a hack or something. I'm the first owner of the Orbi, that was why was worried as bit.

      Thanks again!

The Orbi app is successfully connected to the Orbi 870, and this error message appears when attempting to enable Anywhere Access.... or

The error message appears when trying to connect the app to the router?

  • The solution appears obvious: Factory Reset and reinstall and this time leave Anywhere Access enabled.

Is there anything unusual about the user name? (special characters? punctuation?)

It would be really helpful if the error message would specify the conflicting information.  My guess is that it is not the product registration that is causing the conflict.  But, without being able to see what the program is comparing, there is nothing to work with.

Afraid my dear friend sjw70, I'm more than a little bit lost here. Don't own a Netgear Orbi 870 system - so can't test and compare) - nor any other active Orbi system. Would be nice if some other Orbi owners can take the plunge, and temporarely disable and re-enable Anywhere Access.

What factors are we facing here?

    1. The RBE871 / RBE870 Firmware version 10.5.20.4 and out in the field for more than one year as of writing. How likely an issue? Very low probability, there would be many more reports...
    2. The iOS Orbi App - from what I'm aware, there is no public repository or a version history easy to find. Higher probability, as Apps are updated on a regular base.
    3. Some kind of a Netgear cloud backend issue, some API not accepting the previously working credentials why ever.

Have no personal connection to the NTGR consumer edge, and don't want to escalate this to the NTGR networking friends.
