Orbi 970 AP

Hi,

Why do the Orbi 973 (2 sat)  in AP-Mode do not work when the internet is down?

I do not understand why it would disconnect any devices? The Wifi breaks and I cannot access any LAN shares anymore until the internet is connected again. Even 2 devices just connected via LAN cable to the same Orbi (No matter if router, sat1 or sat2) cannot access each otheres shares.

Thanks

SW

Seems that those you block are call to the mothership. I believe I saw that back in AX land years ago. Was attempting to block auto FW updates as they were causing problems and we couldn't stop that. I happened to notice that blocking some of those URLs caused the RBR to go PINK.

You'll need to not block those if you want the system to work right. Nothing we can do with the calling home of the mother ship stuff.

  • What brand and model # is the host router?
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

The RBR and RBS required getting a LAN IP address from a host router in AP mode. If this service is lost then nothing will get any services, internet or LAN side services. You'll need to check with the host routers Mfr for help and support regarding there product and how to troubleshoot there product when problems arise.

      Actually.. this makes sense.
      Thanks
      Now,
Why does it not work, though, as soon as I block some Netgear URLs only. Internet is there.

What NG URLs are you blocking?

  • The RBE973 is one heck of a system to just be using in AP mode.

I'm curious to about this gateway that you have managing it. It must be pretty amazing or having something you need from it to be letting it host everything.

I actually blocked internetcheckorbi.netgear.com and some devcom.up.netgear.coms. Also some more now dealing with CDN and a netgear owned different domain. but they haven't caused any disconnect yet

My log is empty right now and have to wait for more entries again.

The router goes purple. The sats follow shortly after.

Why did I blocked it (AdGuard)? Because I do not understand the need for so many DNS requests in AP Mode.

Why I run it in AP? Because it can 🙂 My Router is a Fritz Cable (and I can and have tested 2). Since I'm in Germany, I cannot use the Orbi as Router if I want to avoid Double-NAT, because the Fritz takes the public IP and keeps it by itself and it is hard to have a fight with ISPs to get a second public IP But thats another story.

AP Mode is fine and the really big thing is its Wifi 7 Power. The rest in not important for me.

    Firmware is V9.12.5.3_1.3.24
