The RBE770 is a satellite. It has only one 'mode'. It connects to the RBE771 router (which has two possible 'modes') and acts as a satellite.
A typical Orbi 50 system consists of one RBR50 router and one or more RBS50 satellites. (With the recent models, Netgear changed the naming convention, which is totally different from the way Orbi products were identified for the previous 8 years. 771 is the 'router' and 770 is a satellite.
Just as the RBR50 router was required to be connected to the ISP using an Ethernet connection to the WAN port, the RBE771 router must also be connected to the ISP using an Ethernet cable to the WAN port (yellow).
The upgrade consisted of (a) replacing the RBR50 and RBS50 with the corresponding 771 and 770 - in the same locations, and (b) configuring the new Orbi system with exactly the same WiFi credentials as the 50 system?
