RBE970 and Satellites Rebooting Randomly?
I have an RBE970 and two 971s. Firmware is V9.12.5.3_1.3.24 They seem to be working well with the exception of random reboots. Just did it again, I am not sure of the periodicity. One...

They blink white from what I have seen on all satellites and base station
The RBR has a static IP address (192.168.1.2) and the satellites as well (.4,.5)
The LAN cable between the host router is the best quality available, CAT6. It is less than 2.5 feet in length and is new.
All logs are turned off except Router operation (startup, get time etc)
Here are current logs:

Every hour on the hour it does something, I am not sure if that is a restart or what. I will watch it at the next 41 minutes past the hour to see what it is doing to create that log.
House is 3,500 sq feet and a 1 story ranch.... RBR 970 in absolute middle. Satellites are at either ends - at least 50-60 feet. One is hard wired, the other is wireless backhaul.
I have no issue with wireless connectivity -- have 90+ devices of which at any given time 50+ are online and work well... with the exception of during a reboot.

What Is the host routers default DHCP IP address pool size?
What is the brand and model# host router that the RBR is connected too?
Does this happend with both RBS wireless connected?
Ok, I put my 970 series online in AP mode. RBS wireless connected for now.
RS600 is host router with wifi disabled.
Been testing some managed switch configurations which are failing for AP with the RBS ethernet connected for Guest Network.
Non managed switch doesn't reproduce.
Will monitor the system this comming week

No other Internet Connected entries since I put this online earlier today.
That size of home, the RBR and just one RBS should be enough.

My internet service is provided by Cox. It is 2.5 gig down/115 meg up, coax based internet. I am getting full speed with no packet loss at both the network appliance as well as Orbi
My cox cable modem is in bridged mode so that all routing functions are handled by pfSense.
My Orbi RBE970 is in Access Point mode also to allow all routing functions to be handled by pfSense.
I have a network appliance running the latest version (24.11-RELEASE) of pfSense as my routing solution.
Network appliance operates at 2.5gig and has the following characteristics:
- Intel(R) Celeron(R) N5105 @ 2.00GHz
- Current: 2795 MHz, Max: 1996 Mz
- 4 CPUs : 1 package(s) x 4 core(s)
- AES-NI CPU Crypto: Yes (active)
IPsec-MB Crypto: Yes (active)
From the router, it goes into an unmanaged 2.5 gig switch at port 1 for which the output goes to Orbi on port 2, and the remainder of my wired devices on port 3.
The Orbi has 2 sattelites.
- One is wireless backhaul to the west.
- The other is wired and goes to a poolhouse to the east.
- I have no issues with wireless coverage.
I do not use IPV6.
All normally associated devices are on reserved IP addresses.
- The DHCP Pool is at 1% - 1 out of 51 used.
- IP range for address pool is .125 to .175
- IP Reservations are from .2 to .120

Domain Name Server 192.168.1.1Are you using the LAN port or WAN port for the RBR connection to the host router?
Do you have a IP reservation set for the RBR on the Host router or just Dynamic?
- Chuck_MMay 12, 2025Mentor
The RBR has a reservation of .2
The satellites have reservations of .5 and .6 respectively.
The input to the RBR is from the yellow WAN port.
The output to the RBS is from one of the LAN ports.
