RBE970 Satellite Connections
Why does a WiFi device 10 feet away from the satellite end up connected to the Router RBE971 which is a 100 feet away? I've also seen where devices close to the satellite initially connect to the sat...

Not an accurate statement. For some of the newer WiFi frequencies and protocols, the speed will decrease as the distance decreases. This is usually considered the near field environment.

Yes and also depends on how the device picks and chooses which frequency to connect too. Some detection algorythms may not be good with client side devices. I found this out with NEST controllers back on 2020 with Orbi AX series. Would ping pong around unable to connect to multi signal AP configuration. Worked with NG for months on this and was determined NEST had to make some changes there side to help the controller work with multi singal source systems and stop the ping ponging around.
Placement of the RBR and RBS and how many RBS are deployed and distanced in between are also a factor for Orbi systems.
Orbi systems are multi signal sourced systems while the R9000 is only a signal source signal router.
