RBE971 stuck on 100M/Full
Hey all! I hope this is the correct place to ask this. I have a RBE971 which I've connected to my PC directly through a CAT 6A cable. Starting today for some reason the speed keeps getting limited to 100M/Full.
So first off i'll list some information to make it easier to understand (hopefully):
- My RBE971 is on firmware V9.12.3.3_1.2.20 (purchased 17-04-2024).
- My ISP speeds are 2GBs Up&Down.
- I have a Netgear GS324TP S350 Switch connected to my RBE971 on LAN1 port.
- My PC Windows 11 (MPG Z690 CARBON WIFI motherboard supports 2.5Gbps LAN) is connected on LAN2 port.
- The ethernet adapter is specified as Intel(R) Ethernet Controller (3) I225-V (driver version 2.1.4.2)
Problem I'm having/facing:
I've had no issues getting the full speed my ISP offers until today. I don't know what has changed however whenever i check the statics on my RBE971 it shows LAN2 Port to be 100M/Full and the same goes for my ethernet adapter it shows linkspeed 100 (Mbps). I've tried all 4 ports, but for some reason it keeps being limited to 100M/Full.
Things i've already tried:
- At first I thought it was my hardware or software on the PC. However when I connect my PC through the Netgear Switch i get 1000Mbps. So only when directly connected to 1 of the 2.5 GBPS ports of the Orbi router it gets limited to 100 Mbps.
- I have another PC (Windows 10) in the house and I tried connecting that one directly to the RBE971 that one was also limited to 100M/Full and same story when connected through the switch it gets 1000Mbps.
- I have tried mutliple different CAT 6, CAT 6A and CAT 7 cables (brand new ones). Both PC's keeps being limited to 100M/Full whenever its directly connected to the 2.5 GBPS LAN ports off the RBE971.
- I've adjusted my Ethernet adapter settings to be 2.5 Gbps Full Duplex. Made no difference.
- I have restarted the Orbi system multiple times. Tried leaving it unplugged for at least 30 minutes and replugging it, but both have made no difference.
- I've done the speedtest inside of the Orbi and it's receiving the full download and upload speed my ISP offers.
- My PC has not done any installations/software updates/ or driver updates.
I really don't know what else to try at this point. I figured i'd ask here before i make a support ticket.
Thanks in advance for your response(s).
Best wishes,
Zero
I managed to fix it. Once the Orbi was stuck in 100M/Full only replacing the Cat Cable to a different one wasn't enough. It would still stay on 100M/Full. Hence I was thinking it's not working regardless of the cable. After replacing the wire i had to reboot the orbi for the orbi to understand it was a new non faulty CAT Cable.
Turns out the wire running through the wall had one loose connection at where it connects to the ethernet wall socket. The weird thing about it was i used a RJ45 tester and all 8 lights were lighting up. Anyhow it's fixed now. Thanks for the advice and sorry for the inconvience.

Windows 10 or 11 ?
Is it convenient to document the specific Ethernet adapter on this motherboard ?

Sorry I forgot to mention that I've edited the original post.
My PC is Windows 11 and my other PC I tested is Windows 10. The ethernet adapter on my PC is specified as Intel(R) Ethernet Controller (3) I225-V (driver version 2.1.4.2). Tried updating it through device manager, says there are no new updates. There might be newer firmware for Windows 11:

Glad YOU solved the problem (because I sure wasn't getting anywhere).
p.s. Testing Ethernet cable is more nuanced than those RJ45 "cable testers" that we all have are capable of. When large cable installations are done, such as an office building or college campus, it is common to require "certification" of each cable using equipment that costs thousands of dollars, such as:
