Wired Network Connections
I recently upgraded from my Orbi RBS50 Mesh LAN to an Orbi RBE970 Mesh LAN. On the old RBS50 router, I used to see all the wired connections when viewing the connected devices. With the RBE, I don'...

May 29, 2025The cable modem/router is handling the DHCP addresses and I don't have access to the modem/router as it is managed by the cable provider.
It would be helpful to understand how all the equipment is connected. i.e., "what is plugged in what?"
Newer Orbi products are really sensitive to how satellites are connected to the router.
In general, we expect to see:
- The WAN port of the Orbi router connected to the ISP cable modem/router.
- Everything else connected to the Orbi system. i.e. no other devices connected to the ISP.
- Satellites connected either over WiFi or 'wired' to the LAN ports of the Orbi router.
Is this how the system is configured?

The Orbi is setup in AP mode and I used the yellow port to connect to my switch, not the ISP router. My current setup is both hard wired and WIFI. Anything that can't be hardwired is connected to WiFi. My Satellites are connected wirelessly. When I try to connect them via ethernet, the satellite goes off line until I unplug the ethernet cable, then comes back on line.
With the previous RBS50 system I saw the wired connections, but not with the RBE970 system.
