Ax 8 and Ax 12

I had an RAX80 for about a year . I recently took it back for return. The problem it developed was that it would stop working . The router would drop the WiFi so my home cameras like the ring doorbell and such would not function so I would have to unplug it and plug it back in . Well that’s fine and dandy when you at the house but when your out on the road and need for these devices to work and the internet keeps dropping out due to the router it becomes a problem . Like I said I took it back to Best Buy I would recomend to any and all buy the warranty they sell on them it is worth it . Had I not bought that I would of had to pay full retail for the RAX12 . Well it’s a shame I had to take that one back the very next day as it wouldn’t even get through the setup before throwing a code . At this point I had seen enough of the Netgear family of products . I have older nighthawk 7500 I believe . Heck it doesn’t matter ya know why it needs to be rebooted all the time as well . I replaced it with the RAX80 last year because it had issues making the handshake for a device . It would take forever and a day if you opened your laptop up and wanted to surf the net . Once it would make that connection it was swift enough but I could go make a sandwich and eat it before it would connect up . I don’t know what it is but I am not sure there is any quality controls in place there . The RAX80 was fast as all get up when it worked and would cover a huge area . But I can’t have routers that need rebooting all the time and that just crash . I am now using a competitor mesh WiFi 6 system . It’s been a couple weeks but so far it’s been easy and trouble free . I wish Netgear had more stable products because when they are working they are really fast . But they are too unstable just go on YouTube watch all the issues with there WiFi 6 orbi system people are having issue after issue with it . I almost gave that a shot but I didn’t the issues people were having with it . I also had conversations with people selling the products in the retail end and I asked them which one comes back the most and they said the WiFi 6 Orbi systems . So I was like nope and went with a competitor.

  • Sounds like you have the same experience as most RAX80 owners of the forum.

Unstable Wifi & the need to reboot often.

Mine is in the box on the shelf in the hope one day Netgear manage to get it working but after almost half a year without any feedback I have no confidence it will ever work.

As for Netgear products, I am currently using an EX8000 extender instead of the RAX80 and it has worked perfectly for the last 3 months. No reboots, no connection problems, stable speeds straight out of the box but as its an extender it is pretty limited in its additional features.

However, like you I am unlikely to recommend or take a chance on other Netgear products in the future with so many other brands out there.
