AX5300 RING ALARM

I just purchased a AX5300 NIGHTHAWK router a few days' ago. I noticed that the associated products won't have an option for my brand new AX5300.

 

I had an ORBI that is about 5 years old and I think was past its prime. I was in the middle on installing the ax5300 and I quickly noticed very few of my wireless devices were working: SAMSUNG S21, FIRESTICK, RING ALARM. I quit trying to connect to the new AX5300 and re-connected the ORBI. 

 

I called RING and they said it could be a problem in that the AX5300 is WIFI 6 capable. I would ASSUME THAT it would be backwards compatible to 5 or 2.4 ghz? Am I off on this?

    Which Netgear router did you buy?

     

    AX5300  is not a unique Netgear model number. Many devices come with the AC/AX tag, but it is essentially a label that Netgear, and others, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds. 

     

    Look at the label on the device for the Model Number.RAX49?

     

    And, if there is one, include the "V" bit to show the hardware version. If there is no V number, then you have V1.

    No. You are correct. Whoever you talked to at RING is speaking out of their rear end.

     

    If you try to connect a device that cannot see WiFi 6, then it will ignore that bit of the wifi.

     

    Sadly, many of the brands that supply IoT things really do not seem to understand how wifi and networks operate.

      I looked under the router - it says RAX49. One other thing that was annoying - my laptop was showing it being connected but when I would go to different web pages I would get errors saying "this doesn't support HSTS". I re-connected my old ORBI router and now every page comes up with no errors.

        I have no idea what that means. But if your laptop is Windows, perhaps that is where you should look for the problem.

         

        It is all too easy to shout "router" whenever you have a problem when you connect to the network. But that misses out several key factors.

         

        How did you connect this laptop to the network? Wifi? Wired?

         

        What browser gave the error? What about other browsers?

         

        Google suggests other places where you could troubleshoot:

         

        this doesn't support HSTS - Google Search

         

        Nothing in there suggests that a router could cause the problem.
