Cannot wirelessly connect HP LaserJet 200

HP LaserJet 200 color M251nw .  Is more than 10 years old but works well except for the following.

Can connect with Ethernet cable.  Cannot connect WiFi.  Was able to WiFi with old router.  Printer sees the SSID but returns "Invalid passphrase".  Printer status report includes the correct SSID, and 'communication mode = Infrastructure", and authentication type wpa2-psk, and encryption tkip+aes.  I have the router set to tkip+aes.

Have the latest drivers in the printer & router.

Have tried other suggestions here & no luck.

  • Check to see if you have WPA and TPIK enabled on the router. Most older HP printers supported TPIK only and no AES support.

If this fails you may need to keep the printer connected over ethernet.

  • Make sure you Wi-Fi password has no spaces or special characters.

    • The usual way to fix wifi printers is to find the printer maker's utility, the software that runs on your operating system. Then use that to connect the printer to the wifi.

The router just broadcasts wifi. It is then down to the printer to play ball. There isn't much that you can do on a router, beyond fixing it to a particular IP address, that affects what the printer gets up to.

Where possible, using the WPS feature can simplify things.
