Debug Log settings

I have been unable to find any information on the following questions that I have on the debug selections available by using the debug console (192.168.1.1/debug.htm):

1. HAPD Log Capture

2. MFP Disable

3. BSD debug enable

4. Steering debug enable

5. Enable DAL Log

6. Start Debug Log Capture When Boot Up (how does one then stop and save the logs)

7. Enable LAN/WAN Packet Capture (what is the best way to then read the captured files that are on my ReadyShare USB stick)

I am trying to use these logs to figure out why my router's "Internet LAN" light changes from white (connected) to amber (disconnected).  This has been happening every two to ten days.  All the usual troubleshooting steps so far has not resolved this. I am hoping that these debug logs will help.  The daily admin logs available on the standard GUI webpage do not show any issues.

Thanks in advance!

  • If the internet LED is changing from WHITE to AMBER, generally means that the router is not getting a good connection from the ISP modem or the ISP modem is intermittently failing or the cable between the two is not good.

    Is your router the RAXE500?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

How is the router connected to the ISP modem, using the Yellow WAN port or the Multi Gig port in back?

First look at the user manual for LED information and what indications are meant for the LEDs.

      Yes, it is the RAXE500.

      Firmware Version
      V1.2.13.100_2.0.54

      Spectrum DOCSIS 3.1 eMTA SD10

      CAT6A STP installed

      Yellow WAN port is utilized

Usually, when the Internet LED turned yellow, I lose all internet connectivity.  This last time, my internet connection was good, even with the light being amber.  This is what prompted me to ask the question as the router's manual did not cover my situation.  The manual said a solid yellow Internet LED light means "A cable was plugged into the port, but the Internet connection is not yet ready."

I have had the Spectrum modem replaced twice, changed out my ethernet cables and removed all but my basic devices from my home LAN.

I am thinking next I will replace my Netgear router with my old ASUS router.  It has a much more robust log capability that is not lost when the router is rebooted.  Plus, if the problem does not show itself with the ASUS router over a two month period, I will have to put the blame on an incompatibility/failure of the Netgear router.

One thing I now do is if I will be home for a while, I log into the router and bring up the "Show Statistics" window.  Keeping this window live gets rid of the pesky problem of the router closing down the GUI after about 3 minutes of inactivity.  I hope to be able to capture this issue while the log is active.  Even if it shows not anomaly, that is still good information to have.

Usually if the Internet LED turns AMBER then there is a loss of internet services from the ISP modem.

Try connecting the ASUS router to see if that router does same thing.

Has a factory reset and setup been performed on the RAXE since last FW update?
