How to access files on hard drive connected to nighthawk AX8 router using plex media server

So an issue I have ran into, is plex media server is a joke when it comes to suppolrt and help, trying to speak to anyone about an issue is harder than getting away with murder. I have been on the forums there and what do I get, **bleep** nothing, so Ill see if there is someone here who can help. Ive got an 8tb external hard drive connected to my nighthawk AX8 router, I am trying to connect plex media server to the router so I can watch movies from my hard drive accross all my devices without having to use a computer as a middle man! When trying to use plex and download their NAS sofftware, all it does is give a bunch of bull**bleep** zip files that only people from other planets would understand, So first is this possible? I know the X10 router is an easy setup with plex, but seeing as the AX8 is "the new latestr greatest" aside from the AX12 how is this possible to connect and make work? ANyone?
