How to completely stop automatic firmware update please.

Hi. I have newly purchased the NetGear Nighthawk RAZ120. It works well. I went into the settings and disabled the automatic firmware updates, but it still runs, and the firmware seems to be updated everyday. This is such a nuisance as I lost all connections every time. This is especially bad during office hours when I work from home and in conference meetings.

Why does it still runs even though I disabled the automatic update? Why are there so many firmware updates NetGear, come on? And most importantly, how do I stop this for good and only check when I want to update it please?

This is getting on nerves.

Thanks.

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?

    RAX120?

Should not be updating every day I believe.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.

    Then disable Automatic Updates?

Thanks FURRYe38 for your fast response. Much appreciated. my firmware version is "Router Firmware Version V1.2.8.40"  and it is the latest version. I don't know the details of my modem, it is provided by my ISP Provider. It's a "NowTv Hub Two" Modem, which I connect to my NetGear router with a Cat5e cable. I can buy a new cable Cat6, but why would the issue be the cable?

It works fine, but once a day it does this "[Initialized, firmware version: V1.2.8.40] Monday, May 15, 2023 13:53:25", and when that happens, all connections are lost for a few minutes until it finishes. The "Disable automatic firmware update" doesn't work at all. Never had this issue before with any previous routers.

      • It is not updating your firmware daily. That's not possible for multiple reasons. What it's doing is crashing and rebooting, hence the message you see about initialization and losing connection for a few minutes until it's fully up. There are multiple, lengthy threads on here about the RAX120 crashing/rebooting. Might try a forum search.
