Netgear MK63 combined with Netgear R7000

Dear Community,

I'm new to the netgear community and have a question about a purchase I want to make in the next few days. I currently have a netgear r7000 at home as my router. I would like to purchase a netgear mk63 mesh setup to increase the WiFi range at home.

However, the r7000 still works fine and that's why I wonder if I can still use it when the mesh network is set up. For example, is it possible to add the existing router (the r7000) (as an extra mesh wifi extender for example) to the new mesh network?

I am open to any suggestion.

Regards, Pieter

  • It won't integrate with your system but you can use it.

    You can either go:

R7000 (router mode)---->MK63 (access point mode)

    or

MK63 (router mode)------>R7000 (access point mode)

You need one of them in access point mode to prevent a double nat.

I'd also make sure ot use a seperate ssid and to have them on a seperate wireless channel to prevent interference.

    I've done this numerous times.

      Dear plemans,

Thank you for your reply and solution.

Which order of the two you just suggested would you recommend?

Does it make a difference in terms of internet speed which is set as router and which as access point?

      Kind regards,

      Pieter

If it was me? I'd try them both and see which works better.

the MK system is a lot newer (7ish years) and might perform better as the primary but until you try it, you never know.
