Nighthawk iPhone app won't block access to selected devices on RAXE500

Nighthawk RAXE500 on Spectrum.

The Device Manager tab on the router control app shows a list of devices accessing my network.  All are identified except for one labled XL824-1422410 and labled as Chromebook.  I do not own a chrome book so I assume this means one of the nearby homes has a Chromebook which is accessing my network.

The Device Manager shows a green slider button on the right side of the line for the Chromebook and I assume that I should be able to slide this button to the right so it is grayed out and block access to this unknown device.  I can't.  I get the error message "Sorry, the action was failed.  Please try again."

Aside from the poor english, it seems that for some reason the software will not permit me to control who uses the network.  As a test I also tried to block some of the other devices which I can identify and the same error message is returned.

What must be done to keep unidentified devices from accessing my network.

  • The Nighthawk app is something of a dumpster fire so it's no surprise that the slider has no effect.  If you try it on something you're sure is on your network I think you'll find the same thing I have....either you'll get a spinner that never ends, or it spins and then gives up and tells you to "Try again later".

The Device Manager is often wrong in identifying the attached devices.  I have a Nest Camera that Device Manager insists is an Amazon FireHD8 Tablet.

What's the MAC address of this "Chromebook"?  We can look that up and potentially see the manufacturer's name, which might help you identify the actual device.  I'm sure you'll find it's not someone else's stuff.
