Nighthawk Rax30 not showing correct speed after fiber installed

Old comcast name/login on Nighthawk rax30 does not allow full speed of new ATT fiber speed of 500. Instead, speed test shows 87. ATT technician connected my NH to the ATT Gateway with an ethernet cable. When I connect to a wifi network, I have a choice of my "old" comcast name or the new ATT name. I'm assuming the ATT is broadcasting from the ATT Gateway as the  speed test shows 480 (out of 500). When I unplug my NH, my old comcast network name doesn't connect, but the ATT does. So, that's why I assume the ATT network is broadcasting from the ATT Gateway. But if the pass through cable to my router is sending the same signal, then my old name should show the same speed, I would think. What am I not understanding?

Thanks for any help!

That you're in a double nat with both devices in router mode.

What actual att gateway is it? Some are pretty decent.

Are you wanting to use both the ATT gateway and the Netgear? IF so, just put the netgear in access point mode.

  • Hello,

    wo Networks Are Active:

Your old Comcast network name is still being broadcast by the Nighthawk RAX30.

The ATT Gateway is broadcasting its own WiFi network under a different name.

    Speed Difference:

The ATT Gateway’s WiFi shows ~480 Mbps (expected on fiber 500).

The Nighthawk’s WiFi (old Comcast SSID) shows only ~87 Mbps.

Your NH RAX30 may not be correctly set up in bridge/AP mode, or it's:

    Double NATing, or

Not getting full bandwidth due to a LAN-to-WAN bottleneck, or

Ethernet cable is plugged into the wrong port (e.g., LAN port instead of WAN/Internet).
