Nighthawk RAX50 Router Cannot Access Internet ("Internet Not Available")

Hello all, I'm hoping one of you can help me with my problem since Netgear support is basically nonexistent past the initial 90-day mark (which is ridiculous). I lost power, which caused me to reboot my modem (Arris Surfboard SB2000) and router (Nighthawk RAX50) and when I did, the Nighthawk's Internet LED indicator went to a steady red. Whenever I check my Internet settings, it says that I'm connected but that Internet may be unavailable, and I can't actually access it.

The Nighthawk app isn't much help; it says it can find/connect to my router but just can't access the internet. This is also preventing me from reconfiguring the router via initial setup.

Anyway, as far as troubleshooting goes, I've tried pretty much everything that I can think of. Hard-booted both modem and router several times, hit the reset button on each, and tried new ethernet cables in different ports. I also tried connecting just the modem to my PC and confirmed that I was getting an Internet connection there, so something is wrong with the router itself and establishing Internet availability. This was all at the behest of tech support at my local ISP, and they confirmed that there is Internet coming through but just not reaching my router for some reason, and they had me contact Netgear if the re-registration didn't work, which it doesn't because there's no internet... of course.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I haven't tried messing with IP addresses or DNS as I'm not THAT tech savvy. I don't know what else to do and if nothing else works then I may have to try exchanging the router. Does the 1-year warranty cover this stuff?

  • the SB8200 has 2x ethernet ports. But most ISP's only allow 1 device to be connected to it.

Try this. Factory reset the sb8200 and the RAX. This ensures link aggregation isn't running or causing issues.

then power off them both and disconnect the coax from the sb8200.

    Let it sit 2 minutes.

then connect the coax back to the modem and boot it up.

give it 2 minutes to boot.

Then connect the router to port 1 on the sb8200 and power the router on.

Give it 2 minutes to boot.

Then try setup on the router.
