Nighthawk RAX80 dropping signal all day

I'm sure this isnt the first time this has been discussed but i have a specific question.

My router has been dropping the wifi signal (both bands) frequently for about a month.

I decided to call tech support today. I knew i was out of my initial techinal support window. I wanted to see if they would let me file a claim. Surprise that didnt happen, but they said I had too much signal interference.

They said if I renew my tech support ($150ish) They would do the following;

  • Create a regional track ?
  • Enlarge bandwith?
  • Change my channel frequency?

I'm a novice here so what I'm asking first is will this fix my issue? Second, is it worth paying $150 for them to do this (ive spend so much on this router already)? Can I do this myself?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

       Firmware version?  Connected to what?

Do you mean that your wireless devices lose contact with the router,
or that the router loses contact with your ISP, or what, exactly?  What
    about wired devices?

    > [...] they said I had too much signal interference.

Not impossible.  Far from certain.  Especially if wired devices also
    fail.

How, exactly, did you "call" whom, exactly?  Hint: If you don't start
at/near "http://support.netgear.com/", then you might find yourself
dealing with some (other?) scam artist.

       Huh?

    > o Enlarge bandwith?

    > o Change my channel frequency?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.  Look for
"Specify Basic WiFi Settings".  (Also "Troubleshoot".)

Will minor parameter changes stop a recurring total failure?  I doubt
    it.

    > [...] is it worth paying $150 [...]

Not to me.  $150 could buy a nice used router with a different name
on it.  I'd expect that to be more educational.

    > [...] Can I do this myself?

Can you follow the material in the User Manual on the two items which
make sense?  (And/or, do you know what "a regional track" is?)
