No cables connected - New Nighthawk router
I just purchased a Netgear Nighthawk AX4200 5-stream WiFi6 router from walmart for about $200.
I have internet through an ethernet port in my apartment wall, I've gone through the app set up and it's telling me there's no cables connected.
The step by step instructions wanted me to plugin the nighthawk ethernet to my modems ethernet, but I dont have a modem, I just have the wall ethernet for internet, so I plugged it directly into the wall. The router says there are no cables connected.
The wall ethernet port provides internet to my laptop when directly plugged in, so I'm assuming there is a problem with this router, or I'm doing something wrong?

Which one? AX4200 is not a reliable guide to model number. Many devices come with an AX tag, but it is essentially a label that Netgear, and other brands, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds.
Look at the label on the device for the model number. RAX something or other?

If you just plug into the wall there's a good chance that you are plugging into another router. So you are piling router on router. That's a recipe for chaos.

The instructions say "plug into modem". You plugged into something else. Don't you think that could be the issue?
Have you asked the unknown ISP that supplies your Internet how you are supposed to connect a router to it?
Depending on how they deliver the Internet, you may have to put your new router into Access Point mode.

Wild guess: This is a RAX43 https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rax43 or a RAX43v2 https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rax43v2 ?

Connect the apartment Internet connection to the Router WAN/Internet port https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RAX43/RAX42_RAX43_QSG_EN.pdf with the yellow marking shown as [F] on the image.
Correct community section for an AX router is Nighthawk With WiFi 6 (AX) And WiFi 6E (AXE) Routers to discuss Nighthawk (RAX and RAXE Series) router products.
