RAX42 Nighthawk AX5 5-Stream AX4200 WiFi Router Bridge Mode Connectivity

Using RAX42 Nighthawk AX5 5-Stream AX4200 WiFi Router in wireless bridge mode, working great to extend to four wired clients at distance from the primary router. 

While I can successfully connect from the wired clients on the AX4200 to the primary router and thence to the internet I can't connect to any of the wired clients on the AX4200 from any of the clients (wired or wireless) on the primary router, and I get a "client refused connection" message.

Is there an option somewhere I missed that needs to be set to allow access from the "upstream" (wireless side) to the "downstream" (wired side) clients in this configuration? Perhaps similar to allowing access to setup/login from WAN side in normal use?

  • I did a complete factory reset of the RAX42 this morning then reconfigured to Wireless Bridge using *only* the web interface (the app won't work for this anyway), and it seems to have resolved the problem.

    What distance in feet is the RAX42 in wireless bridge mode from the host router? I'd say no more than 30 feet in between.

    When in wireless bridge mode, the RAX42 will act like a wireless client device passing thru data from any ethernet connected devices behind the RAX42. No special configuratons are needed or available on the RAX42 while in wireless bridge mode. All router mode feature are disabled while in wireless bridge mode. So connection and quality will be based on distance from the host router and the host routers configuration there.

      I've tried several including eero 6+, Linksys Velop MX4200, and and even an old Linksys WRT-54GL running DD-WRT. Same results with all, so I'm leaning toward ruling that side of the link out as the source of the issues.

      'd say no more than 30 feet in between.
      About 110 feet with an unobstructed line of sight (actually in a different structure); 5GHz "five bars" etc. No problem with data transfer on links originated from the clients (Mac, xBox, AppleTV, TV).

       

      Everything configured normally and is working except for connections from the "host side" to the clients; the other direction is clean, which is why I'm wondering if there's another setting somewhere that didn't get cleared out when setting Bridge Mode.

        Wow that's some distance. I guess as long as it's line of sight and nothing in between and your getting good 5 bars and you did a FR and setup from scratch and it's working now. Sounds like that fixed it. 


        Yes, NH mobile app doesn't support wireless bridge mode. 

        You can can access the RAX in bridge mode using the assigned IP address it gets from the host router, or what I do for my bridge mode router, I set a static IP address on the router thats outside of the host routers default DHCP IP address pool, then you can always access the RAX web UI in wireless bridge mode thru it's static IP address. What I have currently set up on the RAXE500 in bridge mode currently. Works great.
