RAX80 firmware
Having an issue checking for firmware update via the app.
appears I am at version 1.0.10.140
app keeps returning “problem checking firmware update.”
any help is appreciate.
Well, I may have solved it via sheer aggravation. Haha
rather than signing in via the terrible app, I signed in via IP on my laptop
went to the net gear site and saw update (1.0.11.148), which I downloaded. Router admin prompt did not self find the update but did apply the download manually
Not sure why self update didn’t work.

A frustration for Netgear customers for YEARS. There appears to be no formal documentation for how the firmware update process is intended to work. What people have surmised from observation over the years is this:
- Netgear announces new firmware by creating a web page in the Knowledgebase with links to new firmware.
Users who watch the web site may discover the new firmware, download, and manually install it.
This provides information as more users install the new firmware, which may inform Netgear of issues.
(Just this week, new firmware appeared on Jan 5 for several WAX devices, and then disappeared on Jan 7.)
At this time, the daily process that runs on customer devices does not detect the new firmware.
Nor does a deliberate search using Firmware Update. - At some point, someone decides that "it is time" to let devices discover the new firmware.
- At yet another time, someone decides that devices should announce to users that new firmware is available, through the smartphone app or the web interface.
Users who never open the app or web interface remain blissfully unaware. - Finally, someone decides "enough of this" and forces the update on devices in the middle of the night.
- The entire process can take many months (or years).
Some users appear to receive email alerts about new firmware. (I never have.)

Users can manually update the router which is recommended and I prefer doing.
If there is FW available, manually download the file and unpack the zip file and load it using the routers web page:https://kb.netgear.com/23960/How-do-I-manually-update-the-firmware-on-my-NETGEAR-router
Good Luck.
