R7800 is best of breed for Netgear routers. It has fewer firmware issues and has very good performance. If you want a Netgear router with minimum of issues go with the r7800. Still have mine sitting on shelf as a just in case.
With the r7800 you can install Voxel's great firmware based on Netgear OEM, plus can also install other 3rd party such as DD-WRT and Openwrt/LEDE if you like to experiment.
In short, IMHO, go with the r7800 if going Netgear.
See michaelkenward did not say anything bad. ;)

This is my second week with the RAX80 and I can tell you this has been the best router I have owned. Fast, stable and farther reaching even with 802.11ac. With the DFS channel I am running on I am not compeating with the other 100 802.11ac routers in my condenced neigborhood.
Netgear did a great job on this 802.11ax router and getting all of my internet speed up and down out of this product.

With some basic network cabling available e.g. to operate some wireless access points - go for Netgear Insight managed switch(es), WAC505 or WAC540, and the BR500. You won't look back.
Forget Netgear's consumer offerings - nice hardware, but awful firmware for at least 18 months.
