RAXE500 - Readyshare - Problems with larger HDD

Looking for advice on getting large HDDs to work with readyshare

I have tried the following on my RAXE500

256Gb Samsung SSD in a UGREEN M.2 SATA SSD Enclosure USB 3.0 - Works; no apparent issues

WD WD80EFPX Red Plus 8TB SATA Hard Drive for NAS in IcyBox IB-351StU3S-B External case for 3.5" - Works intermittently; needs you to reboot the router to see the drive; disconnects the drive after several seconds or minutes or hours depending seemingly on how the router is feeling.

Seagate 4TB 3.5" SATA-III Barracuda Internal Hard Drive in another IcyBox IB-351StU3S-B External case for 3.5" - RAXE500 will not even see the drive.

In all instances;

All drives are formatted NTFS

All drives work perfectly on Windows 11 PC

All drives contain a single partition and

The only thing I can think of is to change the IcyBox enclosures since that seems to be a common factor.

I would like to hear if anyone else has had success or otherwise with larger drives on the RAXE500 and if so with which drives / enclosures / configurations.

Changed from the ICY BOX enclosures to a UGREEN 3.5 USB 3.0 enclosure ACBUGN50424.

Moved over the drives, changed nothing else and WD RED 8Tb drive now running stable for several days with relatively heavy access.

So in summary an enclosure which worked perfectly on a PC was not stable on the RAXE500 with readyshare.  Changed to a more modern enclosure with same drive, no other changes solved that issue.

  • Try a different enclosure.

Be sure that the enclosures use there own power supply.

Does a 1 or 2Tb drive size work?

      Thank you.

The enclosures / drives ae 3.5 inch form factor and so yes they do have their own Power supplies.

The SSD case does not and works perfectly so I am not seeing power supply as an issue currently.

I have never seen any published limitations for readyshare and certainly non - specific to the RAXE500 but there are 4Tb and 8Tb drives on the known to be compatible lists for readyshare on other netgear routers.

Hopefully a different enclosure will solve it. Let us know how it goes.
