RAXE500 Slow download, fine upload. AP mode not functional.
So here's a weird one.
I've a RAXE500 that previously seemed to work fine. There are now two issues with it.
1) It becomes unmanageable when placed in access point mode. It replies with an empty page. Even after factory reset this persisted, so it's now in router mode.
2) In router mode download is significantly slower than upload on a symmetrical connection. Not just over WiFi, though it was tested via 4 different devices, but wired too.
I have;
- Checked the configuration of the router and found nothing relevant
- Changed the port the router connects to on the switch, and changed the port on the router from the multigig port to one of the GigE ports
- Checked the configuration of the switch behind the router. There is nothing interesting there. This switch regularly shifts 10 Gbps happily.
I can't see anything at all wrong with any of the setup. The download is obviously going from the switch to the RAXE as it isn't connected directly to the Internet, the upload leaving the RAXE and heading to the switch.
I tried disabling flow control on the RAXE: nothing changed.
I cabled a device directly to the switch the RAXE is connected to and speeds were as expected.
So 3 different switch ports, 3 different ports on the RAXE, tested in AP mode and in router mode and no good.
The RAXE is running firmware release 1.0.12.96_2.0.45. It is connected to a Mikrotik CRS310-1G-5S-4S+ and shows the same issues connected to a Mikrotik S+RJ10 over the multigig port and over 2 different Mikrotik S+RJ01 modules.
So I've the ridiculous case of a router providing over a gigabit upload speed over WiFi and being stuck to about 250 Mbit/s download.
As the diagnostics on the product are basically non-existent there's not much else I can tell you - any thoughts or words of wisdom?

What browser are you using?
Be sure to clear out ALL Browser caches and disable any browser security add-ons prior to entering the routers web page.
Try a different browser. I use MS Edge and Opera GX with mine. Mine in Bridge mode however.
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router or router to switch if using the multi gig port. CAT6A STP is recommended.I would test the RAXE with out any switches in the mix. Go directly to the host router or ISP modem first in router mode.
Ensure your getting good speeds at the modem/ONT first with a wired PC, then connect the RAXE.
Hello and thanks for responding.
The issue is seen on all wired and wireless devices, phones, Mac, 2 Windows machines, both browsers and using the speedtest.net app.
The router isn't being a router, it's being an access point. The DHCP server is disabled and it's just talking to devices over WiFi then shooting the data over cable. 3 different cables, 3 different Ethernet ports on the device used, all connected at either 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps depending on which port they connected to.
The ONT is fine. The Internet connection is fine - it achieves over 8 Gbps wired via the same switch the RAXE is connected to but not going via the RAXE. It is connected to Comms Switch CRS310 and is using the EdgeConnect Virtual.
As mentioned a device connected to the Comms Switch via 10G optics hits 8 Gbps - the common point of failure is the RAXE whether wired or wireless. There is no shaping or rate limiting anywhere on the network that would impact the RAXE as I don't use it. Traffic going through the RAXE is seen the same way as everything else as far as the rest of the network goes, it just seems to not want to handle data flowing into it, remember it's downloads so the data is going from ONT into the RAXE then out to clients, at any kind of speed.
So as a troubleshooting step, have you tested the RAXE in router mode after a factory reset and setup from scratch behind the ONT? A power cycle of the ONT would be needed here. I'd first test the RAXE using it's 1Gb WAN port. Don't enable any Armor, SPC or Traffic Meter options. I would try this first to ensure the RAXE is working correctly at the ONT with out any switches while in router mode. This could help rule out Switches causing problems...
