WiFi works but ethernet stopped working

Configuration:

M1 Macbook Air. Nighthawk router connected to Cisco cable modem (supplied by Cox Cable), connect to the computer - Router to Wavlink hub via ethernet; hub to computer via USB.

Since my Mac is right next to the router, I've been using it connected via ethernet and just use the wifi for my phone and ipad.  I've been using this setup for at least a year (including with my previous Mac).  It was working as recently as a couple hours ago.

Now with the wifi off on the mac it says there is no connection.  So far I have done the following, to no avail:

1) downloaded and installed the firmware update and rebooted.

2) tried a different ethernet cable

3) connected the cable to all the different ethernet ports on the router

None of this made any difference.  What should I try next.  I suppose I can live with just having the WiFi connection, but why should I ???

  • I've seen issues with usb hubs causing issues.

do you have a different usb-ethernet adapter?

    Or lightning--ethernet adapter?

No, I don't have another hub.  It's worked with this hub just fine for the past 2 months, until this afternoon.

I see there is a USB port on the front of the router. Could I just go from that to one of the USB ports on the hub?  So far I was just using it to run the fan in the cooling pad I have my Mac sitting on.

No. You couldn't go usb===usb with the router to mac.

Could have been a  drive update to the hub.

Do you have a cheap lightning/usb to ethernet adapter you could try?

That's what I'd be checking on.

Are ANY other wired devices having issues or just the hub?
