Wireless connect AX8 to network

My home network runs off an RS700s. I'd like to connect an old AX8 wirelessly (5Ghz), then physically connect NAS backup to the AX8 running in the garage. Just to note I'm not wanting to use the AX8 as a wireless extender, I only want Wi-Fi connection to the RS700s.

I'v gone through a few tutorials online most of which recommend the Wi-Fi setup of the two routers match exactly; name, channel, security. When I do this my devices such as Google Nest all decide to connect onto the AX8 which has no internet connectivity. Also if I change the AX8's IP I can't connect to it for some reason?

Can someone please help

Actually that is the mode you need (even though you don't care about the AX8 wifi client network).

Unfortunately the AX8 doesn't have that mode.  Both the AP mode and Router mode require an ethernet connection to the RS700.

You need one of these options:

    • an extender with ethernet out
    • a wifi adapter with ethernet out
    • a powerline networking kit (if the garage uses the same breaker box as the main house).
    • run an ethernet cable to the NAS

The extender is probably better than a wifi adapter if you are connecting to the NAS - easier to manage it from your phone, since you can connect to it over wifi.
