Solved

Some needed improvements to the community forum software!

  1. The software permits upload of JPG files, but does not permit the upload of JPEG files. REALLY? They are identical! The only reason there are JPG files is because back in the day, some OSes (like MS-DOS) could not handle a 4 digit file extension. On Mac, images default to the proper extension, .jpeg. Please allow this extension in the supported formats!
  2. The software only permits uploading 1 attachment per post. This is silly. How many times are we trying to describe a problem, and each step might show a screen-grab image? Even the post "How to report a problem" says this (not the bolded - plural) --> 6. Error Messages and Logs
Include any error messages, codes, or logs that appeared. Screenshots or screen recordings can be particularly helpful.  Please consider increasing this limit to something appropriate for a support forum.
  3. Have you ever tried going to a thread to read through the thread, and found how difficult it is? In what seems random to me, some posts appear, some require clicking to expand. There is no way to just expand the entire thread so it can be browsed. I can see maybe by default showing the first post and maybe the last 1 or few posts, but make it easy to expand the entire thread to be read.
  4. It seems I have to multi-factor authenticate on my devices very frequently, despite clicking the box to say trust this device. There might be an issue there.

Thanks

  • Yeah that was Friday, about a mile from my house! Blue Angels - in town for the Sail250 250th celebration of the country...they seemed to only be about 50 feet off the ground, and LOUD.

And here are 3 photos I dragged in!

Note you can put in multiple in-line pictures (which is actually better than trying to show the steps with multiple

attachments). But there are other situations where multiple attachments would be useful.

I agree that it should do that.  Note you can use the camera tool to post a jpeg in-line, but the attachment tool fails.

While we are on the topic, it should also allow upload and rendering of HEIC still image files.  This is the native format with iOS.

This would be good. Though I get why Netgear might prefer these to be in cloud storage (with URLs pointing to them), it would be ideal if you could post short screen recordings (couple of minutes).

This is really awkward, and should be cleaned up.  Plus it is often impossible to mark a discussion thread as read (even if you carefully click on each post).

That makes it really hard for me to follow up:

    1. too hard to identify threads with posts I haven't read.
    2. too easy to miss the new posts in the thread

I'm not seeing that - though I am normally using a windows PC, and not my phone or tablet.

Also think that older posts, say 6 months to 1 year past, should all be closed. Users and post links to older closed posts for reference if needed.

StephenB I just discovered if you create a new discussion, the camera icon (and the other icons) at the bottom don't show up! So you can't add an image other than through add attachment.

    Whereas in reply it's there:

Perhaps it depends on "something".  I just now Clicked Start a Discussion in "We Want Your Feedback" and got this:

    Camera icon appears.

I also see what CrimpOn sees.  I am using Chrome on a Windows PC.

I am Safari on Mac. I just tried it on Safari on an iPad, same thing – no icons at the bottom on start a discussion

There appear to be (at least) two differences:

Start a Discussion has this at the top of my (Firefox) screen (and nothing at the bottom):

Whereas Reply has nothing at the top and has this at the bottom:

I can think of no reason for them to be different.  (and also no reason for Safari to present different features than other browsers)

It'd be much better if you had all the options when you reply.

Also, there are a lot of format options missing in PMs - code samples being one I often used when analyzing ReadyNAS logs.

donawalt Can you confirm uploading a jpeg file is working or not working for you?

I seem to be able to upload a .jpeg file here using the Upload from Computer path...

FWIW, I can too.  Though this is from a windows PC (.jpeg extension, not .jpg).

        Kewl picture.

Can you drag more than one image file or copy and post more then one image in a post?

Just wondering if this is back to workable (kind of)?

My upload was just a plain simple PNG, for see image uploads are possible again (at least).

Will try these JPG and JPEG resp jpg and jpeg when back home.

Multiple images seem to be possible again, at least when attacking multiple images. While editing (I've attempted to edit my post above), it does it allow adding additional images.

      Much better again.

But hey, before marking as solved: donawalt had several issues on the list - or are you hope for quickly rersolved KPIs? So NTGR like consumer grade QA and RD (like on the RS-routers for example.... - I know I'm mad)?

Nice, I saw then years ago while in California. Fun stuff.

Thanks for confirming. I think we can mark this one solved. Finally.
