2 Netgear modem/routers, 1 network.
Ok, I have a CAX80 nighthawk and a C7000v2. Following YouTube I cannot put these on 1 network. Mainly because of the password reset loop. But before that I was in and out of crappy firmware Also, i...

I have done a factory reset last night. I have cleared the caches this afternoon. My main problem now is that im still stuck in the Reset Password loop.
Done extensive research online to find that maybe clearing cache and using a different browser has helped. but im at a loss. ive also seen that someone else has tried several factory resets to no avail.
right now and before ive had all my devices hooked up to the CAX80. will that play a role?
i really dont want to factory reset, but when i get back from dinner, ill try pc direct into CAX80

Is this on the C7000?
After you reset the thing, you are likely to hit "setup" mode. This is because the thing is trying to be helpful and to guide you through the setup process.
Somewhere on that screen there should be an option for a manual setup.
In your case, the first thing you have to do is to get into the C7000 and make the changes needed for it to work alongside the CAX80.
Here is a somewhat snarkily written account of one person's advice on how to achieve what you want.
Re: Can I use a C6300 cable modem without cable in... - NETGEAR Communities
For various reasons, the person who wrote that is no longer with use.
I point to it because of the level of detail it provides. It seems to have worked for other people.
You should not need to mess around with the settings on the CAX80.
- IanhicksAug 16, 2022AspirantI will have to try that last night. Last night I cleared all my browsing data. No effect tried edge and chrome.
Tonight I will reset both, again.
I will unhook all cables. Other than a PC into the CAX80. Once I get that one ready for the other router, I'll try with that one. Ugh. Never had trouble with Netgear till now - FURRYe38Aug 16, 2022Guru - Experienced User
So is the reboot loop issue with the CAX80?
Is the CAX80 connected to the ISP coax line?
- IanhicksAug 16, 2022AspirantIt was with both. Before that, it was letting me in on and off without the password reset with both. But ilthe firmware was also breaking down and running in the old mode. Which wouldn't allow me to click anything.

Ok. Well, for the CAX80, it will reboot itself if there is no line signal or the coax cable is disconnected. So be sure the CAX80 is connected to the ISP coax line and there is signal on this line.
A factory reset on the CAX80 with a 10 second press and after the CAX80 comes to ready should result in seeing the start of the Setup Wizard at 192.168.1.1 with a wired PC and web browser....you should see a page with Nighthawk mobile app and at the bottom a link to select to manually setup the modem using the PC and web browser.

You are effectively trying to break the rules and use the C7000v2 for something that Netgear doesn't officially support. Hence the need for workarounds.
There are clear instructions for devices that Netgear wants people to use in AP mode.

Good questions. This whole saga is getting very confusing.
It can't be repeated too often that you have to do these things in exactly the right order. You can't just flail around.
Get the CAX80 sorted out before going anywhere near the C7000v2.
When the CAX80 is working. Turn it off and disconnect it from the network. Then, and only then, start working on the C7000v2.
Connect that, and only that, to the PC that is supposed to manage this process.
Then go through the rigmarole needed to turn the C7000v2 into a "faux AP".
When that is done, go through the required routine for restarting the network.
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
- Turn off and unplug modem.
- Turn off router and computers.
- Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on computers and rest of network.
As FURRYe38 often suggests, and with good reason, do create backups of the configurations on both devices. You can never have too many backups as long as they are properly labelled.

After Factory resets on both I have successfully been able to access both CAX80 & C7000v2 firmware.
im trying to follow the following youtube clip.
When working on the AP router(C7000v2), soon as i disable DCHP it loses all function. a restart did nothing. needs factory reset and start all over.
I figure my issue is with the order in which I take steps to configure the AP(C7000v2).
Its late, so ill try again in about 20 hours.

It shouldn't really matter what order you do things in. These are independent operations. The two devices do not come together until after you have set them up individually.
Unless that video is dealing with a repurposed cable modem/router it is unlikely to be the full picture.
- IanhicksAug 17, 2022AspirantOk. My issue is turning DHCP off then. When I hit apply, it turns the firmware to blah. Cant do anything.
- FURRYe38Aug 17, 2022Guru - Experienced User
After set a new IP address on the C series modem to say 192.168.#.70, then after you turn OFF the DHCP server on the modem and apply it, you need to connect the modem to the host router using a LAN port on the back of the modem to a LAN port on the back of the host router. After the modem has updated after applying and the connection cables are plugged in you should be able to access the modems web page at 192.168.#.70 if you connect to it in back of the modem or in back of the host router or via wifi.

Nailed it on the last post. I wish I would've watch the whole clip before. but I was trying to follow steps. I didn't know in the video his 2nd router was turning to a brick as well. So I changed the IP address and disabled DHCP in the same attempt. After that I ported it to the 1st Router, then I changed the wireless settings.
Big thanks to you guys. It all seems so simple now.
