AC1600 5g not connecting

Purchased an AC1600 today and although 2.4 network works well enough, 5g network is visible on mutiple devices but when attmpting to connect, we will receive wrong password msg or "could not be joined. Try moving closer to the wireless router. Alternatively, run Wireless Diagnostics to troubleshoot."
We did change the factory network names and PW but again, works fine on 2.4 but no go on 5g. If the laptop was any closer, the modem would be resting on it. Password is correct as well.
The previous modem/router was good for about 2yrs and also a Netgear and that worked fine on 2.4/5g until I upgraded for faster service. Most devices compatible with 5g worked great with the now discontinued model.
Suggestions? TIA!

A couple things you can try.

    1. Disable any autofill settings on your browser when changing the ssid/password.they're very good at overwiriting what you've put in.

    2. Make the changes via the browser and not via the app when changing ssid/password

    3. Avoid any special characters or spaces when setting up the password/ssid.

You also have the option of using netgear support. New devices from netgear come with free 90 days of support from date of purchase. To use this, click on mynetgear at the top. Register an account and then the device. From there you can contact netgear and sometimes get help faster.
