AC1600 wifi name change

I am trying to change the name of the SSID on my router to one I used before for all of my other devices.  I really don't want to change all the otehr devices ewhen I can just chage one.  So I tried the NIghhawk app, changed the name in the device settings section and it would never connect to the router under the new name.  I changed it back tothe original name and it connected fine.  I treid ot login to routerlogin as stated in other posts, only to be taken to the netgear site and told to download the phone app.  Routerlogin.com takes me right to download the app page again.  What is the issue and how do I fix it?
