AC5300 Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Tri-Band WiFi Router - lack of STP protocol support for SONOS
I was reading the product manual for this router and found out it does not support STP (Spanning tree protocol) which is used by the SONOSNET network. I cannot plug in more than one speaker to my wi...

I had to read up a bit on Sonos and their need for STP. I think the answer is, "Maybe." I think it will work if you insure that the Sonos devices are not connected to the router's Wi-Fi network. If you connect the Sonos to the router's Wi-Fi network, then the Sonos may try to over Wi-Fi through the router and you will lose the benefit of the managed switch. You may be able to set up the Sonos devices to use their own private, meshed Wi-Fi network to communicate amongst themselves. I'm not sure if this requires their Sonos Bridge or Boost.
I suggest you take your question over to the Sonos user forums (link). STP comes up quite frequently as a topic.

I did early on this morning and that was one of the options. With my old router I was able to have 4 speakers hardwired to the router through the ethernet ports through my house. The old router supported STP. When I connected my speakers yesterday to the new router I connected the same 4 speakers I had wired to the old router. This morning my internet connection - all computers - was looping due to a broadcast storm.
My options are either to wire only one SONOS speaker to the router. This will start SONOSNET in "Boost" mode and let all the other speakers go wirelessly. SONOSNET is a separate 2.4 GHZ wireless network that does not broadcast the network SSID so it does not uses the router 2.4 GHZ wireless network.
For reliability it is better to have more SONOS components wired to the router but not having STP protocol support on the router creates an issue when more than one component is wired....I just need to ensure that an STP capable swtch will be a workaround for this problem and a switch that will be compatible with this router.
