Best router/modem combo for $150

We have a rented gateway from comcast and don't want to pay the fee each month, and we pay for 120Mbps. We don't want to spend more than about $150-$200.

I game and stream Netflix, and my mother does too. We both have phones and tablets, plus we have smart devices like Google home and the hue lights.

What should we look into for hardware? I'm not sure if we should get a router/modem all in one, or buy them as two units separately.

Suggestions?

Most modem router combo units start at about $200 and upwards. If you game, you may want to get into a stand alone modem and then install a separate wifi router behind the modem which is preferred for gamers.

Have a stand alone modem and separate wifi router gives users more management abilities over gateway modems. The FW on modems is always mangaged by the ISP. So having a separate wifi router, users can update these on there own when FW is available.
