C3700 significantly slower than rented Comcast Arris

Just bought an N600 dual band router/modem (C3700) for $35 off normal price in order to save $10/mo. off my cable bill. I bought it because it had great reviews and was on sale. The speed test with the Comcast/Xfinity supplied Arris modem/router was over 75 MBPS. With the C3700, the speedtest is about 28 Mbps. Also, the wifi signal was way better with the Arris, being able to receive the 2.4 and 5 ghz signals in the basement. I can only receive the 2.4 in the basement now. The firestick works just fine (on the 5g), but our phones are very slow on Wifi. Is there something I could do to make these problems go away?

    Hello Dudesqueak


    You can mess with the wireless channels to see if you get a better signal. as for the speed issues you may want to check with your ISP because sometimes when switching modems they apply the wrong codes to the modem and you maybe on a 30mb plan instead of your old plan.
