c7000v2 being gifted to a friend
I disconnected this c7000v2 cable modem at the end of May because I switched ISP, and I just "filed" it away as a spare. However, now my friend still on that ISP needs a new cable modem. I defaulte...

If the C7000v2 is not broadcasting its/any SSIDs, and if it's not
giving your Ethernet-attached computer a good IP address, then it might
be in more trouble than you think.I'd try assigning static IP[v4] parameters to the computer, like,
say:address: 192.168.0.10
netmask: 255.255.255.0Then, when that doesn't help:
address: 192.168.100.10
netmask: 255.255.255.0

Did you also look for the LED descriptions and "Troubleshoot"? Even
without an ISP connection, I'd expect it to settle down and respond as
documented after a minute or two. Unless it has a serious problem
(other then not being connected to an ISP).
And the manual says "connect a coax cable, connect power adapter, plug in device, when startup procedure is complete, power light stays on ( which does happen). It then says "when the modem comes online, the internet light stops blinking and lights solid green" . This never happens, even after 10 minutes like the manual says. I did read the manual on Install and activation.

What's the IP address of your (unspecified) computer/device when you
do this?
If the C7000v2 is not broadcasting its/any SSIDs, and if it's not

Bummer. Unfortunately, I may have made this device unuasable. I set the IP on my laptop to 192.168.0.3, with subnet 255.255.255.0, and I cannot get to 192.168.0.1. Just for grins, also tried setting the IP to 192.168.100.3, subnet 255.255.255.0 with no luck also. (the manual says default address is 192.168.0.1) I still don't see the NETGEAR79 network show up in my Wifi list when trying to find it after resetting the device. The LEDs blinking do not correspond to any of the 3 LED troubleshooting references in the manual (a rather surprisingly small number according to what i thought i would find).
Alas, poor Yorick is broken a cable modem once exhumed from my electronics closet. Well, his undoing is mine this time. I do not want to take up any more time from anybody in what seems like a hopeless case, so I will leave this thread to be closed and removed (I don't think it provides any use to anybody who may come behind me to this forum). I really appreciate the responses, and wish everybody good luck in their future forum endeavours.
