Thats because if you're truly running a C7000, the ISP controls the firmware. Modem/router combo devices are all controlled by the ISP at this time. And the ISP's aren't very good about doing updates.

Although relying on the ISP is a poor process to get updates, the issue is with the app on my Iphone. The firmware is at V1.02.04 and the link you sent shows the current version as being V1.02.06. The app implies that all I have to do is go get a download. How I get it installed on the router is not mentioned. When I go to routerlogin.net to get the update, there is no option to get the update.
It would seem the app could be a little more useful rather than just locking me into a perpetual message that I am not up to date.
I wasted way too much time on this yesterday.

I wish the app wouldn't show anything for combo devices on updating because it's pointless. A bug in the app- GmacDDec 29, 2019Tutor
Here is my report to the ISP and their response:
Comments/Question: I have a Netgear C7000V2 combo router/modem. It needs to be updated from V1.02.04 to at least V1.02.06. I can not do this, but must rely on WOW for my updates. When can I expect this to be done? My mobile app that monitors my home wifi network needs the update to work.
Once we have an update compatible with WOW's network, this is something that will be sent out directly to your modem. Though there may be a new firmware version available through the modem manufacturer, this doesn't mean it's suitable for the WOW! network, and implementing it on your modem beforehand may cause problems with your connection and equipment performance. As soon as it's ready, our engineers will push this out to your equipment.
