At installation getting about 10mbps download vice 100+. With another router of this model I had to call support and they had me get to a cmd prompt and type in something I don't remember. I think ...

That sounds like an "MTU Size".
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Look for "MTU".

Antinode, thanks for the reply. That certainly sounds like it, but when I logged into the genie, MTU is still set for 1500 on my modem-router--which is the one already fixed. If it had been a lower number, I would figure that was definately it. But, since it is still 1500, I am not sure. I am supposed to work on my daughter's problem today. I will just have to see how it goes. Do you know what you would type into the cmd prompt to check packet drops on a specific MTU size? 1500, 1496, etc? Anyway, thanks again.
Also, she and I are both using Cox.

I found the answer to checking dropped packets based on MTU size. The link is https://www.dslreports.com/faq/5793
The key info is:
Finding the Correct MTU
To find the correct MTU for your configuration you must run a simple DOS Ping test. You will simply send out ping requests and progressively lower your packet size until the packet no longer needs to be fragmented. Please reference the following steps:
The command for this ping test is ping www.dslreports.com -f -l xxxx.
•You can use any well known, pingable domain like ping www.google.com -f -l xxxx in place of www.dslreports.com for the test.
•There is a single space between each command.
•"-l" is a lower case letter L, not the number one.
•The last four numbers are the test packet size.- CJinVANov 26, 2019Guide
Well worked on it this weekend. The cable was not all the way screwed in and that got the download speed up to the mid 40s from only about 4. Resetting the modem, changing channels, and adjusting the MTU downward to 1472, the point where all four packets were sent and received, made no difference to the download speed, still mid-40s. Cox went to my daughter's place and basically said they have problems with nighthawk modem-routers and suggested she get a Motorola Arris. Anyway, there were a lot of networks in her condo area, but she got proper speeds with the modem router she originally rented from cox. Also all the download speeds listed here were wireless. when hooked up with ethernet, she got mid-80s to low-90s. She is paying for a download speed of 150. About all I can think of is to lower the MTU some more, or go buy a different modem router. I also suggested she confirm with Cox that they have the modem set to receive the 150, not the lower 30mpbs deal.

Cox and NG should be working on this to figure this out. Most modems work well with other ISPs. If Cox isn't helping to fix this then seem there not being appart of the solution. NG should be working with Cox to ensure there modems are working on there system. Sounds like you should try a differet Mfr modem and see if the problem is resolved.
