C7000v2 updates

I purchased a AC1900 Nighthawk C7000v2 router/modem a year ago. It is running DOCX 3.0. My internet provider, Spectrum, has sent me a new modem that supports DOCX 3.1 as they say as of January 26th everything will be going thru the new DOCX 3.1 software.  My questions are:

1) Can I keep using my Netgear modem and just upgrade or download the new software?

2) What are the steps I need to do?

You can keep using your device. But there isn't an "upgrade" to it for it to support docsis 3.1.

spectrum is still continuing to use docsis 3.0 devices, they just don't support the higher speed tiers that spectrum offers.

so if you're paying for a faster tier that requires docsis 3.1, then you'd need to use their modem and buy a router

Thank you for that update! Is there a way to just use the Netgear Nighthawk modem JUST as a router and use the Spectrum unit as my modem?

      If so how?

No. There isn't a "router only mode" on the C7000.

Its modem only or modem/router combo.

there's a way to make it act as a type of access point but you'd still need a router connected.

What speeds do you pay for? You might not need the docsis 3.1 device. The C7000 is the fastest supported modem/router device for docsis 3.0 devices.
