Long story short, how do I find my admin password. I've tried the generic password on the. bottom of the router. I've tried the assigned password, and I've tried the password provided by the cable provider. The Nighthawk app does not like any of them.

Wire connect a PC to the router and factory reset the router using the back push pin button. Hold it in for 10 seconds then let go. Then log in to routerlogin.com or 192.168.1.1 using a wired PC and web browser and walk thru the setup wizard. Be sure write down all important information for safe keeping later on.
Thank you for your reply however I have no idea how to do what you suggest starting with what is a wired PC? My laptop plugged in?? I guess you need to explain it to me like a first grader.
Yes have your PC ethernet LAN cable connected to the back of the modem. The LAN ports in back of the modem.
