C7100V - What's this crap about having to get firmware from my ISP?

I bought this Cable Modem/Router as it seemed like a great option since I have used Xfinity and been really pleased with the service.

I can understand that the modem firmware must be approved by Comcast/Xfinity, but why can't I find firmware for the Router part of this device?

Afterall, it's essentially a NightHawk with a docsis 3 modem tacked on.

I loved the Nighthawk R7000 and the fact that it has very solid firmware, so why is Netgear not letting me update that part of my product?

This thing is going back if I'm at the mercy of Comcast and essentially have no options to keep it upto date like any other Netgear product - certainly not for close to $300 USD!

Maybe I'm missing something?
