When this modem goes off line it can not be reset remotely and the internet provider can't communicate with it.  It takes a physical power down to reboot the modem.  Any idea why this modem will not come back on by itself?

    Why is it going offline? It shouldn't just randomly be going offline. 

    Power surgers? Storms?

    If that's the case, I'd be more worried about these issues frying the device. A cheap UPS is a great investment to prevent it from being wrecked.
