I've got this modem and I have a line plugged in and it works with all the phones in my house. I also recently purchased a new four handset system, and only the main phone requires an rj11 plugged into the phone and wall, the other three Are Wireless handsets that just require power only. And a modem is connected directly to a phone outlet on the wall to my tel1. All four of my phones are functional.
